Gastronomic University to open in Spain
Basque Culinary Centre - BCC
The world's first "gastronomic university" is to open in Spain, complete with a research laboratory
to explore the mysterious chemistry of taste.
Student chefs will be encouraged to master the craft of "molecular gastronomy" under the tuition of
Spain's most celebrated restaurateur Ferran Adria, who owns El Bulli, and encouraged to use scientific
innovation to design the recipes of the future.
Britain's own Heston Blumenthal, the self-taught chef at the Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, has also been
tipped for a guest lectureship.

Michelin awards top stars
... to two Chicago restaurants
Forget the relish-slathered hot dogs and deep dish pizza - Chicago scored a major
culinary coup Thursday with two of its top restaurants awarded the highly-prized three-star Michelin rating.
Michelin's first guide for restaurants in the midwestern metropolis, which once garnered the nickname Hogtown
for its slaughterhouses, reviewed hundreds of eating spots and honored two dozen with its star system.
Rocketing to the top were Alinea and L2O, which joined just 91 other restaurants worldwide to
earn three stars from Michelin.
